Delete your Literate account
This page explains how to delete your account in the Literate app and the data that goes with it. Literate is made by Literate Software LLC (literate.app).
Delete in the app
Android
- Open the You tab.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Tap Delete Account again to confirm.
iOS
- Open the You tab.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Tap Delete Account again to confirm.
What happens and when
Deleting signs you out on all devices right away. Your public data, like your profile, public books, and posts, stays visible until your account is permanently deleted after 30 days.
If you need your data deleted sooner, email support@literate.app. We handle expedited deletions on a best-effort basis in special cases, at our discretion.
You have 30 days to change your mind. Signing back in won't restore your account. To restore it, email support@literate.app from the address on your account.
After 30 days, the deletion is permanent and can't be undone.
Delete without the app
Email support@literate.app from the address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We'll confirm your request and process it within the same 30-day window.
What gets deleted
- Your profile: name, handle, and photo
- Your books
- Your reading logs, notes, and sections
- Your reading statistics
- Your posts
- Your follows and followers
- Your club memberships. If you're a club's only admin, another member becomes admin. A club with no members left is deleted.
- Your invitations
- Loans you created as a lender
- Push notification tokens
- Photos you uploaded
- Your sign-in account
What we keep
If someone lent you a book, their loan record keeps the name they know you by, so they can remember who has their book. Your account link and handle are removed from it. Any pending loan requests to you are declined.
Copies of your data may remain in our encrypted backups for up to 30 days after permanent deletion, and then expire automatically. Crash reports, which don't include your books or posts, are kept for up to 90 days. We don't restore deleted accounts from backups.
For more on how we handle your data, see our privacy policy.
